Pingtan's superior location and supportive policies drive cross-border e-commerce growth
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2023-05-06 | Lin Kongbo, StephanieThe cross-border e-commerce industry in Pingtan, part of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, is experiencing strong momentum. Workers at warehouse No. 4 of the Pingtan Cross-Border E-Commerce Park were seen packing goods on April 27 for delivery across China. These products, which now number over 20,000 different types, are ordered by customers from Tmall and Douyin international platforms. The platforms’ increasing traffic has led to a more diverse range of categories in the warehouse, which has grown from just over 9,000 in the past year.
Fujian Youhaohuo Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd. operates warehouse No. 4,with an assistant to general manager Lin Yibo revealing that most of the products are beauty products from Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Tmall international's partner accounted for 50% of the revenue last year, in collaboration with over 400 stores and companies on the platform. "Currently, we have a storage area of approximately 30,000 square meters in the park, but we plan to lease more and larger warehouses next year to meet the growing market demand," said Lin.
In 2015, Pingtan was the first to pilot the business of cross-border e-commerce bonded import, general export, and direct purchase import while also promoting the construction of cross-border e-commerce industrial parks. Data shows that from January to February 2023, Pingtan’s cross-border e-commerce bonded imports exceeded 4.195 million orders, an increase of 42.9% YoY, while the value of exported goods exceeded RMB 516 million, a YoY increase of 71%.
According to Zhang Shufu, deputy director of the Business and Logistics Division of the Economic Development Bureau of Pingtan, in addition to taking full advantage of its superior location, Pingtan will continue to provide three types of industrial supporting services.
Plenty of preferential measures for e-commerce businesses have been put into place with the support of the local customs, tax bureau, and financial institutions. A comprehensive set of regulations governing the island's e-commerce operation and its related business were expanded. Lastly, direct logistic channels of import and export on land, sea, and air were linked up.
Pingtan is designated as a window for China’s new round of opening up. and the preferential policies and excellent services for cross-border e-commerce development have created a good business environment. With the support of the government and the growth of the platform's traffic, Pingtan's cross-border e-commerce industry is expected to continue to prosper.
