A group from the China-Pacific People-to-People Friendship Forum visited Pingtan on May 14 with the aim of enhancing cultural, educational, and tourism relationships between Pingtan and Pacific Island nations. During their stay, Pingtan signed a friendly cooperation agreement with the Pacific-China Friendship Association, committing to strengthening their partnership. As an international tourism island, Pingtan is located off the coast of Fujian province in eastern China.

The delegation explored various sites, such as the International Research Center for Austronesian Archaeology, Longhai Village, Taiwan-themed Town, and the 68-Nautical-Mile Scenic Area to gain insight into Pingtan's archaeological research, rural revitalization, and tourism development.

The delegates were impressed with Pingtan's remarkable achievements in development and expressed gratitude for discovering archaeological insights into the Austronesian, which solidified the strong connection between Pingtan and the Austronesian origin. The visit was also a journey of rediscovering the roots.
