The third Pingtan Cross-Straits Workers Cycling Tour kicked off on May 20 with more than 500 cycling enthusiasts from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. After a three-year hiatus, the cyclists reunited on the island of Pingtan to enjoy a cycling feast and explore the beautiful scenery of Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan as well as the only special zone for piloting cross-Straits integration.

The route covers a distance of 63 kilometers, traversing major scenic spots such as Beigang Cultural and Creative Village, Changjiang’ao Wind Farm, Northern Ecological Corridor, and Shipaiyang Rock Sails.

As they cycled, the participants enjoyed the scenery and local customs of Pingtan. "It's my first time here in Pingtan. I can't describe how excited I was for the tour when I first cast eyes on the beautiful coastlines for the first time. Pingtan is gorgeous," said Tan Chengcheng from Xiamen.

"I'm from Changle. I've visited Pingtan several times before, but this is my first cycling tour here. It's like opening up a new world, exploring the scenery through sports. I had a great time, and the scenery was superb," said Mr. Shi, a cycling enthusiast.

According to Guo Liang, secretary-general of the Pingtan Cross-Straits Workers Exchange Center, more than 200 cyclists from Taiwan chartered a ship to gather in Pingtan.

The event was organized by the Pingtan Cross-Straits Workers Exchange Center, aimed at promoting cultural exchange and enhancing mutual understanding between workers from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The cycling tour has become a popular event over the years, drawing cycling enthusiasts from across the region.

"In 2019, the activity was held around southern Pingtan. This year, it's around the north. We hope that cycling enthusiasts can have a comprehensive experience of Pingtan's scenery," said Guo Liang.

The event promotes sports and tourism and facilitates cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the workers on both sides. The reunion of cycling enthusiasts from across the Taiwan Straits is a testament to the power of sports and cultural exchange in bringing people together.
