On May 20, 21 couples from Fujian and Taiwan tied the knot in a collective wedding ceremony and cultural exchange event held in Pingtan, the closest location on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan. Dubbed "Shanmeng Haishi," which translates to "lovers vow to be faithful and devoted, even if they are separated by mountains and seas," the event took place in the 68-Nauticle-Mile scenic area, the point closest to Taiwan across the Taiwan Straits.
The newlyweds, hailing from diverse backgrounds, exchanged wedding vows and received their marriage certificates in a celebration of their lifelong commitment and communion. The ceremony showcased traditional wedding customs from both Fujian and Taiwan, including walking on tiles, crossing fire pits, and nuptial tea ceremony. The couples, dressed in elegant red Chinese-style wedding gowns, strolled along a red carpet while holding a red embroidered ball.
The event was jointly hosted by the Fujian-Taiwan Marriage and Family Service Center, Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone Taiwan Affairs Office, and Fuzhou Civil Affairs Bureau. Following the ceremony, a cooperative agreement was signed between the Fujian-Taiwan Marriage and Family Service Center and the Taiwan Wedding Industry Alliance, highlighting the organizers' dedication to developing the wedding and tourism industries together.
Future plans include organizing wedding photo shoots, group weddings, and other initiatives to promote cross-Straits cultural exchanges and cooperation.
