A list of national key filming locations across China was announced at the recent opening ceremony of the first Chinese TV Drama Conference held on June 5. In the list, Pingtan shares its rising eminence in the film industry alongside Huizhou and Jinggangshan,. The accolade was given by the China Federation of Radio and Television Associations (CFRTA).

Pingtan is the fifth largest island in China, blessed with islets spread out along the beautiful waterway that has nurtured a vast expanse of pristine sandy beaches and excellent island ecology that gave rise to its fame in the film and television industry. Over the recent years, the island has contributed close to 100 fine TV productions and is home to several Chinese blockbusters.

Xiao Wenjing, director of the Publicity and Film Development Department of Pingtan, expressed that joining the ranks of the CFRTA designated film and television shooting locations is a remarkable opportunity. In the future, Pingtan plans to use this platform to collaborate with other provinces and cities to share resources, promote innovation, and further develop Pingtan as an international tourist destination.

The move aims to explore and uncover some of the best-hidden gems in China for the big screen and exploit the potential of the local film and TV industry through the promotion of excellent regional culture and local features. Since 2010, only 38 units, including the CCTV Wuxi Film and Television Base and Hengdian World Studios received the award.
