Pingtan and Taiwan reconnect with resumption of direct shipping route
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2023-06-19 | Lin Kongbo, StephanieAfter a hiatus of 1,221 days, the “Haixia,” a high-speed ro/ro ferry shuttling between Pingtan and Taiwan has resumed its direct shipping services. On June 15, at approximately 10:05 am, the "Haixia" was departing from Pingtan carrying freight to Taichung, Taiwan. This marks the official resumption of the direct shipping route between Pingtan and Taiwan for cargo transportation. Pingtan is the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.
Since its maiden voyage in 2011, the “Haixia” has transported nearly one million passengers and over 37,000 tons of cargo. With the resumption of cargo services, the company plans to operate one to two trips per week to establish regular operations.
This resumption of direct shipping services will facilitate the smooth transportation of goods between Pingtan and Taiwan and promote economic and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Straits.
