Fujian Province's ambitious "One Gate and Three Lines" project marks a significant milestone in water conservation and supply. Among the nation's 172 major water initiatives, this project stands as Fujian's largest-ever water infrastructure undertaking and its most substantial water diversion project since the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

Covering a total length of approximately 181.58 kilometers, the project required a staggering investment of around 6.16 billion yuan. At its core is the Dazhangxi Jukou Watergate, known as the "One Gate," serving as the project's primary water source. Complementing this critical element are the "Three Lines," which include the Zhuqi to Dazhangxi water diversion line along the Minjiang River, the Dazhangxi to Fuzhou urban area, Minhou, and Changle water supply line, and the Dazhangxi to Fuqing and Pingtan water supply line. Notably, the Pingtan water supply line spans over 92 kilometers, beginning at the Dazhangxi Jukou reservoir and ending at Thirty-Six-Feet Lake on Pingtan Island.

Pingtan Island, known for its dry climate and limited rainfall, heavily depends on Thirty-Six-Feet Lake as its primary water source. The "One Gate and Three Lines" project was developed as a solution to address the pressing water shortage in the Minjiang River Estuary urban cluster and Pingtan, which has gained national prominence due to its rapid development.

Pristine waters from the Dazhangxi River flow into the lake, sustaining the island's water supply.

Upon completion, the project is expected to provide an annual water supply of approximately 870 million cubic meters. This monumental initiative will benefit nearly 5.8 million people, ensuring they have access to a sustainable and high-quality water supply.

By alleviating water scarcity and meeting the region's increasing water demands, the "One Gate and Three Lines" project will drive economic and social development in Pingtan, opening up new opportunities for the island's growth.
