The Fujian-Taiwan Aomei Integrated Agricultural Demo Base in Aowei Village, Pingtan, welcomed its first visitors on the evening of August 5. The base, adorned with mesmerizing decorative lights showcased a dragon fruit orchard resembling a sparkling galaxy. Neat rows of viney cacti laden with dark fuchsia fruits caught the attention of eager visitors.

"Compared to regular dragon fruits at the local grocer, the fruits here are packed with distinct sweetness and taste. We loaded up two large baskets in no time to share with friends and relatives. It's best to come to pick your own fruits and indulge in the harvest fun," said Ms. Zhou, a resident of Pingtan.

In the early summer of 2021, Aowei Village brought in a new joint venture with Taiwan-funded Fujian Lanchen Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd, which led to a new milestone in cross-Straits exchanges and the founding of Fujian-Taiwan Aomei Agricultural Development (Pingtan) Co., Ltd. The joint venture soon propagated an agricultural base for cross-Straits R&D with farmland tours to boost leisure tourism in the region. At the base, visitors will find a perennial orchard for fruit picking complemented with festoons of fairy lights and an atmospheric restaurant.

"Next, we will focus on our product values and branding. As of now, the construction of our cold chain warehouse and management office will start soon and be ready in two months," stated Lin Sufang, general manager of Fujian-Taiwan Aomei Agricultural Development (Pingtan) Co., Ltd. Lin also expressed her vision - she envisioned an innovative agricultural base that promotes green ecology and farming education; a recreational farm for fruit picking and leisure holidays; and a production and income generator. Ultimately, the agricultural venture hopes to leverage traditional farming and tourism to induce rural revitalization.
