Pingtan' s kitesurfer dominates 2023 Formula Kite Asia Oceania Championships

In the women's division of the kite hydrofoil racing event, Chinese athlete and Hangzhou Asian Games champion, Chen Jingyue, delivered a stellar performance, securing the gold medal. Chinese competitor Li Wan took home the silver medal, while Poland's Julia Damasiewicz claimed the bronze.
The atmosphere throughout the competition was relaxed and harmonious, with all kiteboarding athletes displaying a positive and sunny disposition. Although competitive rankings were important, the focus remained on enjoying the sport and the camaraderie among participants. Chen Jingyue, the women's division champion, shared with reporters that many kiteboarders are free-spirited individuals who revel in the thrill of riding the waves, and most of the athletes approached the competition with a carefree attitude.

Chen Jingyue, born in 2000 in Pingtan, Fujian Province, began her kiteboarding journey in July 2012. Over the years, she has participated in numerous national and international championships, including the Asian Championships and World Championships. Chen has achieved remarkable success, clinching titles such as the National Windsurfing Championships and the Kite Hydrofoil Women's Course Racing Championship. In the Sailing World Championships held in August this year, she secured a valuable ticket to the Olympic Games for the Chinese team. Notably, she also won the gold medal in the women's kite hydrofoil racing event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Chen Jingyue serves as the tourism ambassador for Pingtan, promoting the island's tourism image. Her accomplishments and achievements have brought glory to Pingtan, showcasing the island's potential as a sports tourism destination.
