Pingtan initiates construction of tourism tram and train theme park

Pingtan Smart Tourism Sightseeing Tram and Starry Sea Train Theme Park project breaks ground, propelling the international tourism island's infrastructure to new heights. The project includes Line 1 of Pingtan's sightseeing tram track, serving four stations covering the island's major attractions. This hop-on and hop-off tram service goes in a loop, allowing visitors to explore the attractions at the comfort and convenience of their pace. 

This initiative represents Pingtan's bold experiment in integrating Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) principles into a tourist destination. After three years of meticulous planning and evaluation, the authorities in Pingtan have provided unwavering support, 

Pingtan's TOD plan includes six tourism rail transit lines, which, upon completion, will form an extensive network spanning approximately 80 kilometers. The ongoing first phase of the project covers a 7-kilometer route.

Project Rendering 

Wang Hubing, executive director of Fujian Pingtan Dahang Culture & Tourism Development Co., Ltd., shared exciting details about the project. Four custom-designed trains, measuring 37 meters in length, with three carriages each, will be a prominent feature. These trains boast a unique double-headed design, enabling them to turn around effortlessly. Departing from traditional tram aesthetics, the trains exhibit captivating themed appearances, known as "Ocean Elf," "Facing the Sea," "Spirited Away," and "Ultraman."

Project Rendering

The project includes the establishment of a train theme park featuring exhilarating amusement facilities. Anticipated to open its doors to the public in August 2024, the project aims not only to optimize Pingtan's comprehensive tourism transportation system but also to seamlessly connect scenic spots, urban areas, hotels, guesthouses, and beaches. The project's planned opening indicates Pingtan's dedication to continually improving and diversifying its tourism landscape.

Pingtan, a captivating city in E China’s Fujian province, is rapidly gaining prominence as an emerging destination in the world of international tourism. Positioned as the second international tourism island in China, following Hainan, Pingtan offers a wealth of attractions.
