en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2023-12-22 | Lin Kongbo, StephanieThe 2023 "China Roots-seeking Journey" Winter Camp in Fujian Pingtan officially opened on December 19, hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, organized by the Fujian Province Federation of Overseas Chinese and Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone Federation of Overseas Chinese. 30 Chinese-Australian teenagers embarked on a 10-day roots-seeking trip.\
The activity aims to help young overseas Chinese better understand China's national conditions, culture, and achievements in reform and opening up. During the camp, the campers will have in-depth experiences in calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper cutting, etiquette, traditional handicrafts, and other courses. They will also visit iconic scenic spots such as 68-Nautical-Mile Town and Tannan Bay to learn about the local folk culture and experience the coastal charm of Pingtan.
In addition to Pingtan, the campers will also go to Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Xiamen, and other places for visits, savor the local customs and culture of Fujian, and rekindle their sense of belonging to their ancestral country.
This is the first time that Chen Xuezi, who is from Fuzhou, Fujian, has come to Pingtan. She is full of expectations for this trip. "Fujian has rich original ecological landscapes and profound historical heritage, especially Pingtan, which also has beautiful coastal scenery. I have always wanted to come here. After returning to Australia, I will also share my experiences with my family and friends and contribute to Sino-foreign exchanges and interactions."
The "China Roots-seeking Journey" camp has been held every summer or winter for over 20 years, inviting young overseas Chinese to visit their ancestral homeland for meaningful exchanges and to impart China's rich culture and traditions to the next generation of Chinese descendants.
