Updated:2024-01-04

A spectacular New Year's Eve celebration, featuring a mesmerizing fireworks display, took place at Pingtan Island's "2024 New Year's Eve Fireworks Show on Pingtan Island" event. The celebration consisted of various activities, including a cultural and culinary exhibition, a lantern show, a music performance, and a grand fireworks display.

The lakeside of Ruyi Lake was adorned with vibrant lights and colorful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere. From solving riddles to savoring delicious cuisine and creating heartfelt gifts, both locals and tourists immersed themselves in the New Year's spirit at the cultural and culinary zone. "I made a framed painting as a gift for my mom, hoping she will have a happy and healthy new year," said young visitor Chen Liangsheng.

No joyous occasion is complete without music. Around 7 p.m., a music extravaganza unfolded at the Pingtan International Performing Arts Center. Songs such as Blue Tears, Island Letters, and Good Morning, Pingtan resonated with the audience, retelling stories of Pingtan Island and evoking emotions. Singer Yin Minzhucheng enthused, "I'd composed a song called Hope. This song was composed in Pingtan. We hope to convey blessings and evoke aspirations in the coming year through our music."

Themed "Pingtan, Pingtan," the musical extravaganza featured unique performances, incorporating familiar elements and symbols synonymous with the island. "It was truly awe-inspiring. We'd caught on to some common local proverbs from our childhood and bear witness to the many new faces of Pingtan Island," expressed Xue Huafu, a visitor.

Following the conclusion of the performances, the highlight of the New Year's Eve celebration unfolded—the fireworks show. With a whooshing sound, fireworks ascended into the sky above Ruyi Lake, instantly transforming the scene into a kaleidoscope of shimmering lights. Through fireworks of different colors—green, blue, gold, and red—the unique characteristics of Pingtan's seasons, from spring to winter, were vividly displayed.

Under the skies of resplendent fireworks, people embraced, held hands, and made wishes for the new year. "I pray for better grades," "I wish my mom to become more beautiful in the coming year," "To peace and prosperity of the nation," and "I pray for health for my family"... At a pond at the Pingtan International Performing Arts Center, floating sky lanterns carried the hopes and dreams of the people.
