"Zhi Dao" stands proudly by a fishing port, highly recognizable.

Nestled along a fishing port, Zhi Dao Seaview Retreat stands as a distinctive landmark with its four-story structure adorned with white walls, vintage decor, and semi-transparent curtains. Inside, the ambiance blends comfort and elegance, featuring round archways, French-style windows, and exquisite floral arrangements. Ascend to the rooftop, and the breathtaking seascape of Daifeng Village unfolds, captivating every visitor with its charm. Described as comfortable, elegant, and tranquil, this retreat has quickly become a renowned hotspot within just over four months since its opening in Pingtan, China’s second international tourist destination.

Daifeng Village, with its rustic charm, sets the stage for this modern retreat situated adjacent to the fishing port. The geometric patterns, including squares and circles, on the exterior walls make the building easily recognizable, bearing the mark of "知岛" (Zhi Dao). The four-story structure is embraced by the quaint stone houses that characterize the village, creating a picturesque scene bathed in the warmth of the winter sun.

Upon entering the lobby, sunlight streams through large black-framed windows, filling the space with warmth and radiance. Chen Yun, a key figure in the operation, shared with reporters that since its opening during the National Day holiday last year, they have received over 200 reservations, generating over 200,000 yuan of revenue in just four months.

Before venturing into the hospitality industry, Chen Yun explored various fields, including real estate and car sales. To ensure swift and smooth operation of the retreat, he took on the role of a hospitality manager, juggling responsibilities as a service staff, tour guide, purchaser, and even a barista.

French Aesthetics by the Harbor

The design and decoration of the retreat were meticulously planned. The concept seamlessly integrated into the renovation reflects the allure of laid-back French aesthetics, a style greatly favored by the younger generation.

Notably, the interior is characterized by prevalent "curves" in elements such as archways, staircases, furniture, and even the outdoor swimming pool. Chen Yun explains that these wave-like curves act as a design element for spatial harmony, infusing a touch of dynamism into minimalist living spaces

The retreat has garnered attention not only for its architectural charm but also for its French-themed spaces. Visitors express delight in the abundance of romantic and exotic atmospheres throughout the retreat.

Multifaceted Hospitality Manager

Chen became the face of the retreat, personally overseeing the design, decoration, and daily operations. From coordinating with guests to serving as a tour guide, purchaser, and barista, Chen Yun takes pride in being a versatile hospitality manager.

Adding a hint of personal touch to the service, Chen would send curated text messages to reconfirm itineraries with his guests before check-in. He also sought advice from professional baristas and invested in coffee-making equipment, transforming a section of the retreat into a professional coffeehouse.

Serving freshly ground pour-over coffee, Chen welcomes guests to savor a cup by the floor-to-ceiling windows, basking in the warm sunlight and enjoying the view of distant coastlines. The serene atmosphere and genuine interactions with visitors have fostered a friendly and relaxed social environment.

As the retreat continues to receive positive reviews, Chen Yun remains optimistic about its future. The ongoing renovation of a restaurant within the retreat aims to diversify dining services, attracting more guests to experience the unique charm of "Zhi Dao" and contributing to the rural revitalization of Daifeng Village.
