Pingtan sets sail with record cruise passengers
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2024-03-22 | Lin Kongbo, StephanieOn the afternoon of March 18, the "Dream” cruise liner smoothly sailed away from the Pingtan, a rising international tourism island in China, marking the successful start of all five of its March departures from Pingtan, with nearly 8,300 passengers on board, eager to embark on their world cruise adventures.
That day, the "Dream" embarked on a six-day, five-night voyage from Pingtan to Fukuoka, Jeju, and Tianjin, China, with over 2,000 passengers on board, including 1,600 from outside the province. Many of these travelers arrived early in Pingtan to explore the island's scenic beauty.
"Upon learning that Pingtan is the closest point on mainland China to Taiwan Island, I was eager to visit," shared Liu Fenglan, a tourist from Jiangxi province. Despite being in her twilight years, she was very excited about her upcoming cruise journey.
The "Dream" has been operating five round trips from Pingtan in March, with flexible schedules and diverse destination options. This not only enriches the tourism products in Pingtan but also expands its customer base, providing new opportunities for local tourism industry professionals.
Cruise tourism is a new path in exploring the development model of island tourism. In recent years, Pingtan has been expanding its maritime tourism radius from "island tours" to "inter-city tours" and now to "international tours." Looking ahead, Pingtan will continue to explore diversified business models, aiming to gradually establish international cruises as a new highlight of its tourism industry.
