China's quest for clean energy takes a giant leap forward with Pingtan Island at the forefront. This windy paradise, ideally situated between the Taiwan and Haitan Straits, boasts exceptional wind resources, making it a prime location for wind power generation.

Global Leader in Wind Turbine Technology Launched in China

A groundbreaking 3,500-ton self-elevating wind turbine installation platform, the world's largest of its kind, has been unveiled in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. This marvel of engineering, a collaborative effort between Zhenli Marine Development (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhengli Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., founded by a Pingtan entrepreneur and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (Group) Co., Ltd, is set to revolutionize offshore wind farm construction.

"This platform is a game-changer," says Chao Shifang, the project's chief engineer. With maximized lifting capacity, extended leg structure, and improved hook speed, the innovation promises tosignificantly improveinstallation efficiency, especially crucial during limited weather windows for offshore work.

Pingtan's Wind Advantage: A Natural Fit

Pingtan's strategic location creates a "channeling effect," resulting in powerful, year-round winds. Statistics speak for themselves: the island enjoys an average annual wind speed exceeding 8.4 meters per second, with over 300windydays (forceBeaufort scale6 or higher) and over 200 dayswith gales (forceBeaufort scale7 or higher). This abundance of wind energy positions Pingtan as one of China's richest wind resource regions.

A Pioneering Legacy: Embracing Wind Power Since the 70s

Pingtan's commitment to wind power is a long-standing story. As early as the 1970s, the island established a wind power research group, one of the first in China, and began developing a 55-kilowatt wind turbine. This pioneering spirit has propelled Pingtan intoan industry leader in wind power, transitioning from land-based to offshore wind farms and solidifying its position as a champion of clean energy solutions.

Looking Ahead: A Model for Clean Energy Development

Pingtan Island is a shining example of China's commitment to a clean energy future. The island is also home to the world's first 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine. Wind power development has brought substantial benefits to Pingtan, creating jobs, boosting the economy, and significantly reducing pollution. The island serves as a model for clean energy development not just in China, but for the world.
