Croatian men's team members pictured sharing the joy of their victory
The XI IHF Men's and Women's Beach Handball World Championships drew to a thrilling close on the evening of June 23rd, with the German women's team and the Croatian men's team clinching the championship titles.
Belen Gettwart, a member of the triumphant German women's team, expressed her elation, saying, "I'm ecstatic! It was a grueling match under the scorching sun, but it was exhilarating! The Argentine team demonstrated remarkable insight throughout the competition."
The six-day tournament saw intense battles, culminating in the German, Argentine, and Dutch teams taking the women's podium spots. Meanwhile, the Croatian, Danish, and Portuguese men's teams secured the top honors in their category. The event also recognized exceptional athletes with a variety of awards.
Filip Dominik Hančić from the Croatian men's team shared his joy post-victory, "I'm overjoyed. This was my debut on the national stage at such a prestigious event, and we were all determined to win. We made it!"
The championships captivated sports enthusiasts with its dynamic sports style and fervent atmosphere, offering handball aficionados a taste of the sport's unique appeal and fostering camaraderie among athletes from different nations.
Athletes Marvel at Pingtan's Scenery
On the 23rd afternoon, amidst their tight schedule, athletes from over ten teams, hailing from the United States, the Philippines, Argentina, and more, explored the scenic spots of Pingtan, including Changjiang'ao Wind Farm, Haitan Ancient Town, and the Northern Ecological Corridor, immersing themselves in the area's distinctive charm.
Zharmaine Velez from the Philippine women's team, who enjoyed a stroll along the Northern Ecological Corridor, said, "It's a delight to compete in Pingtan and experience its stunning landscapes. We'll definitely return for a visit when we get the chance."
In Haitan Ancient Town, the Argentine athletes were fascinated by the rich Minyue maritime culture on display. Argentine player Kevin remarked, "Haitan Ancient Town is stunning; I'm really captivated by it. I'll definitely revisit Pingtan."
After their tour of Changjiang'ao Wind Farm, the American men's team visited Haitan Ancient Town, capturing memorable moments in a group photo. Team captain Michael Hinson commented, "Pingtan is incredibly relaxing. The beaches at Changjiang'ao are breathtaking, reminiscent of Hawaii's beauty."
The 2024 World Beach Handball Championship not only provided a spectacular display of athletic prowess but also served as a bridge for cultural exchange and appreciation of the natural beauty of Pingtan.
