Pingtan pushes forward with autonomous driving pilot

The initiative, which focuses on smart transportation infrastructure, has completed tender processes and is set to launch this month.
Zheng Jianfeng, the project's Chief Engineer, has outlined plans to fast-track the initial phase of the Intelligent Connected Traffic Infrastructure construction. Pingtan aims to refine policies and explore commercial uses for autonomous vehicles, with a phased strategy to integrate the technology into various transport sectors.
The pilot project will introduce autonomous buses and delivery vehicles to test public transport, shuttle services, and delivery operations. Key targets include operating buses for 30,000 trips and delivery vehicles for 20,000 orders, amassing significant operational mileage.
Pingtan's autonomous driving pilot is part of its endeavor to advance smart city solutions and enhance its industrial structure with cutting-edge technology.
