Swift action by rescuers from Pingtan authorities saved 23 tourists stranded at sea during the onslaught of typhoon Gaemi on July 23.

The group of adventurous tourists was out paddleboarding. Caught off guard by sudden wind shifts, they drifted perilously away from shore and became stranded on nearby reefs, unable to return.

Upon receiving the distress call, the authorities sprang into action, collaborating seamlessly with local fishermen. Boats and rescue equipment were swiftly dispatched from the Qianbian'ao Port, where authorities were conducting typhoon patrols.

Two audacious rescue missions ensued as heroic responders braved the churning waters, determined to reach the stranded tourists. Ultimately, all 23 tourists were safely brought ashore, with rescuers taking special care to safeguard the well-being of children and those needing extra assistance.

Authorities urged the public to monitor weather updates closely and avoid risky outdoor activities during adverse weather conditions. As the community continues to monitor the typhoon trajectory, preparations are underway to address potential impacts on infrastructure, transportation, and public safety.
