The allure of the open road calls to the adventurous spirit. Meet Yang Xuhui, a spirited primary school PE teacher from Pingtan, China, who has traveled 30,000 kilometers through 14 provinces and over 20 cities in search of a nomadic dream.

"Bike travel is not just a mode of transportation; it's a way of life," Yang shared, his eyes sparkling as he recounted his adventures. " It is a journey of self-discovery, independence, and empowerment. To me, this is the best representation of 'poetry and distance.'"

Starting from Pingtan each year during school holidays, Yang has made several expeditions, including his recent 20-day, 4,100-kilometer trip along the Qinghai-Gansu Loop. His first major journey from Qinghai to Xinjiang, took him through breathtaking landscapes like the famous Duku Highway, where he was awestruck by the shifting scenery of grasslands, canyons, snow-capped mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, wetlands, and gobi deserts.

Despite initial opposition from his family, who feared he might engage in reckless driving, Yang eventually won them over with his safe and responsible riding habits. "I promised them I would prioritize safety for myself and others," he said.

However, the road hasn't always been smooth. Yang has faced extreme weather conditions, vehicle breakdowns, lack of communication signals, and even running out of fuel. A particularly harrowing episode unfolded in the high altitudes, where a sudden downpour caught him and his fellow riders unprepared. "We were shivering in our soaked gear and some of us were experiencing altitude sickness, but these trials only fortified my resolve," he reflects.

Amidst the hardships, Yang also found warmth and kindness. During a stop in Ranwu Village in Xizang, local children approached his group, and they shared snacks, creating a heartwarming bond. "These pure-hearted encounters make my journey all the more meaningful," he said.

Beyond personal fulfillment, Yang has also become an ambassador for his hometown. He enthusiastically promotes Pingtan Island, known for its stunning coastline, picturesque mountains, and ideal motorcycling routes. "Pingtan is a treasure trove waiting to be explored," he said, inviting fellow riders to experience its beauty firsthand.

With visions of establishing a motorcycling liaison station in Pingtan, Yang aims to foster a community of enthusiasts who can share their love for the road and the island. "I want to share my passion with others and invite them to join me on this incredible journey," he added.
