Pingtan Port has received its inaugural shipment of plant seeds from Taiwan, marking a historic step in agricultural trade between the two regions. On August 26, 2024, the first batch of cabbage and cauliflower seeds, after passing a rigorous quarantine inspection by Pingtan Customs, was officially released for market sales.

Seeds from Taiwan arrive in Pingtan via the cross-Straits container ship - Taipei Express.

The seeds, classified as live cargo due to their sensitivity to environmental conditions, arrived at Pingtan on August 13 via the cross-Straits container ship - Taipei Express.

"We followed control instructions to sample and inspect, combining on-site quarantine results with laboratory test reports to issue a qualified assessment, ensuring the seeds were safe and ready for market distribution," said Li Jie, deputy director of the Inspection Section at Pingtan Customs' Jinjing Office.

Pingtan's Jinjing Port Area is recognized as the first port in Fujian province to possess qualifications as a "four-in-one" designated regulatory site for imported fruits, frozen aquatic products, edible aquatic animals, and plant seedlings.

Huang Zhongxin, head of Fujian Xinhua Min Seed Co., Ltd., commented, "In the past, we imported seeds mainly through other water transport ports or air transport, which was more costly. After learning about the qualifications of Pingtan Jinjing Port Area, we quickly decided to choose Pingtan Port. This decision proved to be very wise, as the entire journey from Taipei to Pingtan Port takes only 8 hours, significantly reducing costs and improving efficiency."
