In a significant development for cross-Straits trade, a shipment of fresh Taiwan grouper arrived on September 22 in Pingtan, marking the official activation of the designated supervision site for edible aquatic animals at the Pingtan Port. Pingtan is an island off E China's Fujian province as well as the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.

"This shipment of 2.9 tonnes of Taiwan grouper is a testament to the strengthening ties between Fujian and Taiwan in agricultural and fishery products," said Lin Ju, business manager of Zhenze Trading Co., Ltd., the company responsible for the import.

The arrival of the grouper follows a series of milestones for Pingtan Port, including the first shipment of Taiwan plant seeds on August 13 and the resumption of Taiwan pomelo imports on September 12. This latest achievement underscores Pingtan's commitment to facilitating cross-Straits trade.

"The activation of the edible aquatic animal supervision site at Pingtan Port further broadens the channel for agricultural and fishery products between the two sides, injecting new vitality into cross-Straits economic and trade exchanges," remarked a spokesperson from the Pingtan Economic Development Bureau's Port Affairs Division.

Jinjing Port Area, renowned as Fujian's first "four-in-one" designated supervision site, now boasts qualifications for importing fruits, fresh and frozen aquatic products, seedlings, and edible aquatic animals. The import of Taiwan grouper signifies the full utilization of all four functions.

"We will leverage the advantages of the 'four-in-one' site to enrich our port's business offerings and continue exploring the 'open on the frontline, controlled on the second line' customs regulatory model, promoting Pingtan's high-level opening-up to the outside world," added the spokesperson.
