Shanglou village, nestled in the urban-rural fringe of Pingtan, an island off E China's Fujian province, stands as a symbol of cross-Straits unity and national cohesion. Recently, the village received national recognition for its exemplary efforts in fostering a closer bond between the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Shanglou, with a population of 1,801, including 757 ethnic minorities, has a rich cultural heritage that transcends geographical boundaries. Shanglou, with its historical significance as a possible origin of the Austronesian family, has attracted international visitors interested in tracing their ancestral roots. The village has leveraged this connection by hosting international delegations and establishing a cultural and creative center dedicated to the Austronesian.
