China-Island Countries Ocean Cooperation Forum to launch in Pingtan

This international forum is a collaborative effort by the Island Research Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources of P.R.C., Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone Administrative Committee, the China Ocean Development Foundation, and the Pacific Islands Development Forum.
The event aims to implement the Global Security Initiative and the "Belt and Road" Blue Cooperation Initiative. It seeks to strengthen multilateral cooperation in marine disaster prevention and reduction, address the unique challenges island countries face in climate change and marine disasters, and enhance the alignment of development strategies. The forum is designed to increase the appeal, influence, and cooperation and to expand the network of blue partnerships.
The forum will unveil the "China-Island Countries Marine Disaster Prevention and Reduction Cooperation Plan" and introduce public products aimed at deepening the potential for marine cooperation with island countries. It will also focus on disaster defense and economic development, which are of universal concern to island states. Concurrently, the 2024 International Island Forum will be held, where experts and representatives will discuss marine disaster prevention and reduction, ecological protection and restoration, blue economic development, global ocean governance, and island cultural exchanges.
The forum is expected to attract approximately 180 participants, including officials from relevant government departments of China and island countries, diplomatic missions in China, international organizations related to the sea, and representatives from marine scientific research and educational institutions.
