The prestigious 20th Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize has recently been announced, recognizing 89 outstanding projects in the field of civil engineering. Among this distinguished list, the Pingtan Strait Rail-cum-Road Bridge—recognized as the world's longest and China's first true cross-sea railway-highway bridge—has triumphantly claimed its place at the forefront of engineering excellence.
The bridge, spanning an impressive 16.34 kilometers, stands as a testament to China's technological and infrastructural prowess. With its upper deck accommodating a six-lane highway and the lower deck accommodating a double-track railway, this bridge serves as a vital link between Fuzhou and Pingtan, facilitating both transportation and logistics. It is not only the second cross-sea bridge in Pingtan but also an integral part of the national highway network.
The recognition from the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, a prestigious accolade approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, underscores the bridge's significance as a symbol of China's innovation and excellence in civil engineering. This award, spanning multiple sectors including railways, transportation, water conservancy, and large-scale public and civil buildings, is the highest honor in the industry, acknowledging the bridge's outstanding contributions.
The Pingtan Strait Bridge has previously garnered numerous accolades, including the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize and the National Quality Engineering Award.
