Vibrant sunset clouds illuminate Pingtan Island
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2024-12-03 | Lin Kongbo, StephanieOn the evening of November 30, the skies over Pingtan's Haitan District were ablaze with a stunning display of flaming sunset clouds, drawing the awe of countless onlookers.
"These fiery clouds, often called 'fire clouds,' typically form in high-altitude regions," explained Lin Yanting, deputy chief of the Pingtan Meteorological Observatory. "When sunlight interacts with water droplets and ice crystals within these clouds, the light is scattered and absorbed. Shorter wavelengths, such as blue, are scattered away, while longer wavelengths, like red and orange, penetrate the atmosphere, creating the spectacular fiery hues."
Adding to the splendor, the sky featured "fish scale clouds," a captivating pattern that beautifully complemented the vivid colors of the sunset.
