Pingtan establishes first international friendship city

In a significant step towards international collaboration, Pingtan has officially established its first international friendship city with Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.

Huang Jianbo, director of the Administrative Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, welcomed Hon. Ramsey Pariwa, governor of Madang Province, and introduced Pingtan's unique position as the only pilot zone on the mainland for cross-Straits integration. "Pingtan, the fifth-largest island in China, is uniquely positioned as a 'Comprehensive Pilot Zone + Pilot Free Trade Zone + International Tourism Island.' This agreement will enhance our cooperation and deepen our friendship with Madang Province," Huang stated.

Hon. Ramsey Pariwa expressed his honor at visiting China and Pingtan for the first time. "Pingtan is a city with stunning natural scenery and well-developed infrastructure, showing great potential for development. We are excited to utilize our resources and explore opportunities for cooperation in energy, trade, agriculture, education, cultural tourism, and infrastructure. We look forward to jointly building a bridge of cooperation, promoting people-to-people exchanges and interactions, and injecting more momentum into the quality joint construction of the One Belt and Road Initiative," Hon. Ramsey Pariwa said.

Since 2016, with the assistance of the Papua New Guinea-Pingtan Fellowship Association, the seeds of friendship between Pingtan and Madang Province have sprouted, initiating a series of positive interactions.

Now, with the official signing of the friendship city agreement, Madang City in Madang Province of Papua New Guinea has become Pingtan's first international friendship city, marking a new chapter in exchanges and interactions between the two regions.
