en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2025-04-03 | Lin KongboOn April 1, the upcoming romance film The Very Moment hosted a media event in Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.
Written and directed by young filmmaker Jiang Baiting, The Very Moment has its roots in the IM Film Festival (IMFF), where Jiang's short film won the Kylin Award for Outstanding Short Film in 2021. The feature-length project was later selected as an outstanding proposal for the festival's 2023 "Endless Growth" Training Camp, making it the first film to emerge from the IM talent incubation system.
In Moments Film Festival (IMFF) is an annual event dedicated to supporting young filmmakers from across the Taiwan Straits. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Pingtan, the festival serves as a platform for young artists to showcase their creativity and storytelling abilities. Additionally, Pingtan's proximity to Taiwan positions it as a significant location for cross-Straits cultural exchanges.
"IM is committed to building a stage for young filmmakers to realize their dreams," said Hong Lei, founder of the IM Film Festival and vice chairman of Fujian Media Group. "From short film to feature-length, The Very Moment represents a significant creative leap, demonstrating both unique storytelling techniques and profound artistic expression."
IM has witnessed both the evolution of The Very Moment and the growth of Jiang Baiting as a director. "This has been a deeply meaningful creative journey," Jiang said. "We are transforming our passion for cinema into emotionally impactful visuals on screen."
As the host of the IM Film Festival, Pingtan has actively fostered cross-Straits cultural exchanges and supported young filmmakers. "Director Jiang Baiting's storytelling talent left a strong impression at the IM Film Festival," said Chen Xiaohong, deputy general manager of the Pingtan Cultural Tourism Development Group. "Pingtan has formed a dedicated service team to fully support the film's production. We look forward to discovering new opportunities in integrating film and tourism."
Following the event, The Very Moment immediately began shooting in Pingtan, with filming expected to wrap in mid-to-late April.
As Pingtan's reputation as an international tourism destination grows, its scenic coastline, sandy beaches, and unique cultural landscapes have attracted an increasing number of film crews. To support the booming film industry, Pingtan has also been enhancing its infrastructure. In 2024, the region launched the largest standalone XR virtual studio in Asia, spanning approximately 5,000 square meters and featuring a 900-square-meter LED display system. Equipped with optical motion capture tracking and a multi-channel HD broadcasting system, the facility provides a cutting-edge space for virtual production in film, television, advertising, and live entertainment.
