From a coastal boy in Pingtan to one of China' s most versatile young actors, Oho Ou has come a long way since his runner-up finish on the hit talent show Super Boy in 2013. Now a household name in film and television, Oho continues to surprise audiences with his powerful performances and evolving screen presence.

Recently, Oho starred in Northward, a prime-time drama airing on China Central Television. His portrayal of a gritty and resilient canal worker has resonated deeply with viewers, earning him widespread praise for his grounded and heartfelt performance.

This May Day holiday, Oho is set to appear alongside screen legend Andy Lau in the upcoming thriller A Gilded Game, where he plays a finance prodigy caught in a high-stakes battle of wits and wealth. The role showcases yet another side of Oho's range, further cementing his status as a dynamic actor unafraid to take on bold roles.

Oho's breakout as an actor came with the 2015 film The Left Ear, where his performance as the brooding Zhang Yang left a lasting impression. Since then, he's delivered one memorable role after another. In the war epic The Eight Hundred, he portrayed Duanwu, a timid soldier who ultimately sacrifices himself in a moment of heartbreaking courage—one of the film's most emotional highlights.

With box office hits like The Bravest and The Captain, Oho has proven himself not just as a former idol, but as a serious talent with mass appeal. In 2021, he joined an elite club of actors whose films have grossed over 10 billion yuan (approximately US$1.4 billion) at the Chinese box office—becoming the seventh actor in China to achieve the milestone, alongside names like Wu Jing, Shen Teng, and Huang Bo.

For Oho, though, 10 billion is just the beginning.

While Oho continues to shine on screen, his hometown Pingtan is also enjoying the spotlight. As one of Fujian's rising film and tourism destinations, Pingtan International Tourism Island has hosted four editions of the IM Film Festival and welcomed countless production teams to shoot against its scenic backdrops.

From action films to indie dramas, Pingtan's rugged coastlines and fishing villages have become the canvas for stories like The Island Keeper, Sunny Sisters, and A Singing Stone. With more celebrities and filmmakers discovering the island's unique charm, Pingtan is quickly earning its place on China's cinematic map.

As Oho Ou dazzles on the big screen, his story remains deeply rooted in the sea breeze and sands of Pingtan—an island ready for its close-up.
