Archaeology studies is the rage these days following the recent discovery of “Sanxingdui” relics in Sichuan.  We may not have this in Pingtan but we have something else. Today, we will be going to Pingtan’s Austronesian Archaeological Research Base!

Walking into Guishan historical site,as if riding on a time machine, unearthed pottery pieces unfold one after another.

It’s said that one of the most exciting discoveries in Pingtan was “Bowl Reef I,” some ancient porcelains dated back to the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1662-1723).

This is an important clue to the ancient Maritime Silk Roadand also highlights Pingtan’s position in foreign trade and cultural communications

Today, centuries of history is retold again with these relics. Looking at them, I seem to witness the evolution of the island over the millennia. Uncovering the mysterious veil of time and tide, I see a different Pingtan. On this island, there is so much more than meets the eye- a story of a civilization waiting to be uncovered…
