The 2025 National Baseball Championship kicked off on May 10 in Pingtan, marking the island's debut as host. As a key qualifying event for the 2025 National Games, the championship, it is recognized as one of the most prestigious baseball competitions in China.

Ren Zhiyun, executive vice president of the Fujian Baseball and Softball Association, highlighted Fujian's rising prominence and commitment in the sport. "The decision by the Chinese Baseball Association to host the 2025 National Baseball Championship in Fujian is a strong affirmation of our progress. It symbolizes a new era for baseball in our province and will inject fresh momentum into its future development," Ren stated. He added that the high-level competition is expected to elevate the skills of provincial teams nationwide.

In recent years, Pingtan has strategically focused on baseball and softball to establish itself as an "Island of Brand Events and Energy." Hosting the National Baseball Championship fills a gap in Pingtan's portfolio of major sporting events. This year's competition has attracted 12 professional provincial teams from across China and will run until May 18.
