en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2025-06-05 | Lin Kongbo, StephaniePingtan, a scenic island off Fujian province renowned for its steady winds and pristine waters, is set to host the 2025 National Wingfoil/Kitefoil Championships from June 7 to 15. The event, which also serves as the qualifying round for the sailing competitions at the 15th National Games, will feature top athletes vying for a spot in China's premier multi-sport event.
The championships will include two main disciplines: wingfoil and kitefoil. Competitions will be divided into open and youth categories, with wingfoil events featuring U19 and U17 divisions to nurture young talent. Kitefoil races will include U21 and U19 alongside open divisions.
"This is the first time wingfoil has come to Pingtan, and with 180 athletes competing, it's our highest-profile event yet," said Lin Wenliang, president of the Pingtan Kitesurfing Association.
Athletes from across China will compete in races testing speed, endurance, and teamwork, including course races, long-distance challenges, slalom events, and team relays. The main venue, the Pingtan International Windsports Base, is known for its ideal wind conditions and clear waters. "The conditions here are perfect—strong, consistent winds and open waters. It's a dream venue for competitors," Lin added.
Pingtan has solidified its reputation as a hub for wind-powered sports, having previously hosted international kitesurfing festivals. This event further cements its status as a premier destination for marine sports in China.
