As China's second international tourism island after Hainan, Pingtan set sail into summer on June 8 with the grand opening of the 2025 Island Life Season at the No. 22 International Yacht Marina.
At the launch, Pingtan unveiled the schedule of nearly 30 activities running through late August.
Branded around the themes of romance, adventure, and slow living, the lineup features flagship events such as Sailing Week, the China (Pingtan) Island Choir Festival, and the "Ocean Cup" China (Pingtan) International Cycling Open, blending culture, sports, and tourism with a coastal twist.
A major highlight was the unveiling of new marine tourism offerings at the yacht marina, including the launch of six new luxury yachts, upgraded leisure services, and a dedicated yacht route connecting to Pingtan's 68 Town, marking a boost in local ocean sightseeing options.
"These six luxury yachts enriches Pingtan's marine tourism experiences and signals a new chapter for our yacht industry," said Liao Kunteng, executive vice president of Taiwan Chi-Sin Yacht Group and director at Pingtan Hufeng Yacht Co., Ltd. The event also witnessed the signing of eight strategic cooperation agreements involving major players in the field. These partnerships cover industrial park development, event operations, and green and AI-powered yacht technologies—signaling the steady growth of Pingtan's maritime economy.
"New energy yachts will bring tourists a quieter and more comfortable ocean experience," said Lu Youwen, general manager of Ningde Comtemporary Electric Technology Co., Ltd.. "We're providing battery systems, electric motors, and control units to help drive Pingtan's yacht industry toward sustainability and intelligence."
Capping off the festivities, the 2025 China (Pingtan) International Regatta officially began on the same day, with 10 teams from home and abroad hoisting sails in the Pingtan waters. Racing on high-performance catamarans, the competitors thrilled onlookers with a world-class sailing spectacle.
"Beyond expanding marine sports like sailing and yachting, we're now building a complete industry chain," said Lin Yong, deputy general manager of Pingtan Tourism and Culture Development Group. "Within just over a year, we expect to produce yachts and sailboats locally."
