Pingtan, a comprehensive pilot zone off the coast of Fujian province and the mainland' s closest point to the island of Taiwan, has long been a crucial node for cross-Straits integration and international trade. Now, it's making headlines in the logistics world. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently announced that Pingtan's commercial service-oriented national logistics hub has been added to the latest batch of national logistics hub construction projects.
This inclusion marks a significant step for Pingtan's economic development. "This selection paves the way for building a modern logistics system that will better serve cross-Straits trade cooperation and support international trade growth," stated an official from the Development and Reform Division (Private Economy Division) of the Pilot Zone's Economic Development Bureau.
The authorities in Pingtan have big plans for the newly recognized logistics hub. They aim to streamline and optimize local logistics resources, boosting operational efficiency while cutting costs. This move is expected to provide a strong impetus to industries like cross-border e-commerce, international trade, and cross-Straits economic exchanges.
Looking ahead, Pingtan intends to build a comprehensive business logistics ecosystem encompassing shipping, cross-border e-commerce, and off-port trade. The goal is to attract related businesses to cluster around the logistics hub, transforming the area into a vibrant economic zone centered on international trade and shipping logistics services.
