Pingtan, a comprehensive pilot zone off the coast of Fujian province and the closest point on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan, has long served as a vital center for cross-Straits integration. It is now set to host the first resident performances of Pingtan Impression, a magnificent new work in the realm of oriental aesthetics centered around the ocean.

Pingtan Impression is a collaborative creation led by renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping, bringing together artists from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Inspired by Pingtan's over 7,000-year-old marine civilization, the show distills cultural symbols from intangible cultural heritage elements like the Cane Shield Exercise and Nuo opera. It also weaves in the melodies of Min opera and local dialect rhythms.

Yang Liping led her team on an immersive exploration of Pingtan's fishing villages, ancient dwellings, and rocky reefs. During this journey, the island's deep-rooted connection with the sea left an indelible mark on her, sparking the creative inspiration that ultimately gave birth to this extraordinary production.

The show has already completed 450 performances in over a hundred cities. Now, it is returning to its "hometown," Pingtan. Tickets for the performances, which will kick off at the Pingtan International Performing Arts Center on July 15, 2025, goes on sale at 11:00 on June 27, 2025.

Pingtan Impression features five acts, presenting stories that range from the daily life of the local people on this "divine land," to their brave voyages across the sea, and the struggles against foreign invasions. Through these vivid portrayals, the show not only showcases the unique charm of Pingtan but also reflects the cultural exchanges and connections across the Taiwan Straits.
