Pingtan joins southeast coastal cruise routes connecting Shanghai and Shenzhen
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2025-07-21 | Lin Kongbo, StephaniePingtan, a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-Straits integration off the coast of Fujian Province, stands as the mainland's closest point to Taiwan and China's second international tourism island after Hainan. Beyond its tourism allure, it serves as a key hub for international trade and logistics, blending coastal charm with strategic importance.
In 2025, the 78,000-ton cruise ship China Merchants Eden, also known as Zhao Shang Yi Dun, will launch six 8-day, 7-night itineraries along China's southeast coast, linking Shanghai and Shenzhen in both directions. These routes will make stops in Zhoushan, Wenzhou, Pingtan, and Xiamen, offering travelers opportunities to explore the distinct cultures and natural landscapes of these coastal cities.
The China Merchants Eden, which can carry 2,016 passengers, is set to dock in Pingtan on six occasions: July 23, August 12, September 1, September 9, September 29, and October 7. The sailings will alternate between Shanghai-to-Shenzhen and Shenzhen-to-Shanghai routes, ensuring balanced coverage of the region.
Three of the six voyages are primarily designed for international tourists, aiming to introduce them to the region's unique attractions.
Tickets, now available for purchase, offer an all-inclusive experience: on-board accommodation, meals, entertainment, Wi-Fi, and access to amenities such as spa facilities, a fitness center, and self-service laundries. Notably, there are no mandatory shopping requirements or hidden costs.
"We hope these routes will draw more international visitors to experience Pingtan's unique cultural appeal and boost tourism exchanges between Pingtan and other coastal cities," said Chen Jianxiang, deputy director of the Tourism and Culture Service Center of Pingtan.
