Pingtan, a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-Straits integration off Fujian's coast, holds the title of China's second international tourism island after Hainan and stands as the mainland's closest point to Taiwan. It also serves as a vital hub for international trade and logistics.

This summer, the island will take center stage in the automotive tech world with the "Straits Smart Mobility·Pingtan Island Navigation" Autonomous Driving Challenge at Pingtan Ruyi Lake International Urban Circuit, part of the 2025 Pingtan International Motorsport Carnival. Scheduled for July 26-27, the event is jointly hosted by Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone's Bureau of Tourism, Culture and Sports and Pingtan Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd., with Beijing Donghua Hechuang Technology Co., Ltd. as the organizer.

The challenge leverages the smart infrastructure of Pingtan Ruyi Lake International Urban Circuit to put participating teams to the test. Competitors will tackle 12 real-world scenarios, including traffic signal recognition, avoidance of construction zones, and handling mixed pedestrian-vehicle environments. These tasks aim to assess the safety and precision of autonomous vehicles in complex road conditions and emergency situations.

The event is set to draw experts, scholars, and business leaders from relevant fields, who will attend the races and engage in discussions.
