en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2025-08-14 | Lin Kongbo, StephaniePingtan, an island off the coast of Fujian Province and the closest mainland point to the island of Taiwan, kicked off a 10-day "Fujian Food Carnival" on August 8, offering visitors a blend of culinary treats and coastal fun. As a key area for cross-Straits integration and a rising international tourism destination, the island is leveraging the event to showcase its unique food culture.
Hosted by the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone Economic Development Bureau and Agriculture and Rural Bureau, the carnival is centered at Dong'ao Fisherman's Wharf, with the newly opened Pingtan-Taiwan Alley Market as its core. Over 40 food stalls offer a range of delights, from cross-Straits fusion dishes and Taiwanese desserts to local Pingtan snacks and Fujian specialties.
The event features more than just food. A beach bonfire concert marked the opening night, with a starry sea concert set for August 15. On August 16 when fishing moratorium will be lifted, visitors can sample the "first fish" of the season and experience an authentic island feast.
"It's fantastic to see so many foods in one place. It's totally worth the trip," said Cao Yunjie, a tourist from Zhejiang. Local resident You Jingjing, echoed the sentiment: "This market is great. During summer vacation, I can bring my kids and friends to enjoy good food and sea views. It's so pleasant."
