Pingtan secures major project with semiconductor firm from Taiwan
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2025-09-09 | Lin Kongbo, StephaniePingtan, situated off the coast of Fujian Province and the closest mainland location to Taiwan Island, serves as a comprehensive pilot zone dedicated to cross-Straits integration. It also holds key status in international trade and logistics, and is recognized as China's second international tourism island, following Hainan. In a strategic effort to strengthen its industrial foundation, Pingtan has recently signed a major provincial-level project.
During the opening ceremony of the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen, Pingtan entered into an agreement with Fujian Yaxin Electronics Technology Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-funded enterprise. This deal lays the groundwork for the establishment of the Pingtan Green Semiconductor Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park.
The project is scheduled to be implemented in two phases. Phase I, with a planned investment of 2 billion yuan (approximately $275 million USD), will be located in the Pingtan Emerging Industries Park. It will cover an area of 177 mu (about 11.8 hectares) and have a total construction area of around 170,000 square meters. Focused on building a green, advanced manufacturing industrial park, Phase I will primarily engage in the production of 6-inch silicon-based chips. Once fully operational, it is expected to achieve an annual output of 420,000 power chip wafers, with an estimated new annual output value of 1.5 billion yuan (approximately $206 million USD).
"Pingtan's high-level planning for the semiconductor industry and its forward-looking layout of green energy are highly aligned with our development strategy," stated Sun Jianxi, Chairman of Fujian Yaxin Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. He emphasized that Pingtan acts as an innovative hub for cross-Straits industrial integration, expressing confidence that the zone can evolve into a new highland for bilateral semiconductor cooperation.
"We anticipate taking this cooperation as a starting point to jointly elevate the semiconductor industry to a higher level," Sun added. He also voiced the hope of building an internationally competitive semiconductor innovation ecosystem, aiming to "inject new impetus into the self-reliant, secure development and global cooperation of China's semiconductor industry."
