Pingtan, a coastal county in Fujian Province, China, known for its rich cultural heritage and growing role in the film and television industry, has recently gained international attention through the achievements of its native actor Ou Hao. In late September 2025, two major works featuring Ou have made waves in China's entertainment scene: the concluding episodes of the state broadcaster CCTV period drama Sheng Wan Wu (translated as All Creations) and the online release of the romantic film Love List.

All Creations vividly brings the real rural world to life through film.

Sheng Wan Wu, a rural-themed period drama that concluded its run on CCTV 8 and the streaming platform iQiyi in September 2025, has won acclaim for its vivid portrayal of Chinese rural life in the 1920s-1940s. Directed by Liu Jiacheng and Liu Yang, the series is adapted from Zhao Defa's novel Qianjuan yu Juejue (translated as Attachment and Determination), a work that earned the 3rd People's Literature Award and was shortlisted for the 5th Mao Dun Literature Award—two of China's most prestigious literary honors. Set in southern Shandong Province, the drama follows the fates of three local families over two generations, centered on the themes of land, survival, and social change.

Chinese actress Yang Mi stars as Ning Xiuxiu in the drama.

Ou Hao stars as Feng Dajiao, a kind-hearted and loyal farmer who rescues the female lead Ning Xiuxiu (played by Chinese actress Yang Mi) from bandits and later becomes her husband. Yang Mi's character, Ning Xiuxiu, evolves from a wealthy landowner's daughter to a peasant's wife, showing resilience in the face of oppression. The series is praised for its realistic details, including on-location shooting in Linyi and Rizhao (both in Shandong), extensive use of Shandong dialect, and accurate depictions of local customs and costumes. "Land is the foundation of wealth, status, and identity for farmers," a key line from the drama, reflects the central role of agriculture in the story.

While Sheng Wan Wu wraps up its successful broadcast, Ou Hao's latest film Love List has recently premiered on major Chinese streaming platforms Tencent Video, iQiyi, and Youku. Directed and produced by Tian Yusheng, the film explores the romantic struggles of young urban professionals, starring Ou as Ma Tianze and Zeng Mengxue as Xia Mo. The story traces the three-year relationship between the couple, from their sweet early days after graduation to their eventual breakup, using a "breakup list" as a narrative device to examine modern relationship pain points such as mismatched life goals and post-graduation choices.

Audiences have shared mixed emotions about the film, with many relating to the realistic portrayal of young love and its challenges. "Watching the film made me think about my own past relationships—it's bittersweet," one viewer commented. Director Tian Yusheng emphasized that the film is not a typical light-hearted romance: "The breakup between Ma Tianze and Xia Mo is regrettable, but it pushes both characters to grow and move forward in life." Ou Hao, reflecting on his role, added, "Regrets are part of life, and they help us become better versions of ourselves."

Both works highlight Ou Hao's versatility as an actor, transitioning from a rural farmer in a historical drama to a modern urban youth in a romantic film. As Sheng Wan Wu concludes and Love List gains traction online, the Pingtan-born star continues to solidify his place in China's entertainment industry.
