International kitesurfers gather in Pingtan for golden wind season

Pingtan, China's second international tourism island in Fujian, is a global hub for kitesurfers thanks to its steady strong breezes. As it enters the 2025 October "Golden Wind Season", colorful kites fill the sky and surfers glide over turquoise waves, with enthusiasts worldwide flocking to the island.
Yang Hanqi, a Shanghai kitesurfer in his second year of training, plans a several-week stay. "Pingtan is China's top kitesurfing spot—great transport, accommodation and facilities," he said. "It gives me joy in self-challenge and skill-freedom satisfaction."
Zhang Boyuan wows with sleek aerial flips.
Zhang Boyuan from Henan, a 3-year kitesurfing veteran, stays months yearly. "Insiders call Pingtan the 'Mecca of Kitesurfing'," he noted. "Year-round good winds and top surfers here boost our progress fast."
Danish surfer Jens visits yearly from mid-October to mid-December. "No place in China matches Pingtan's kitesurfing conditions—it's on par with world-famous spots," he emphasized.
Pingtan has developed its marine sports industry via unique wind and beach resources, building training bases, upgrading facilities and hosting international sailing events. Today, it remains a vibrant playground for wind chasers.
