Pingtan, a coastal destination in China renowned for its prime wind conditions and pristine beaches, played host to the 12th Pingtan International Kitesurfing Competition and Cross-Straits Kitesurfing Freestyle Invitational, which concluded on November 6, 2025. Top athletes from both sides of the Taiwan Straits gathered, showcasing their speed, skills and courage in thrilling contests against the backdrop of blue seas and clear skies.

The event featured two core disciplines: twin-tip racing and freestyle. The latter emerged as the highlight, captivating onlookers with its high-difficulty manoeuvres and stunning visual appeal. Finalists soared and flipped above the waves, demonstrating remarkable mastery and fearlessness that drew enthusiastic cheers from the shore.
Zhang Zhelun, a competitor from Taiwan, shared his impressions after the competition: "Watching all the athletes riding the wind and waves was truly inspiring."
Chen Gufeng, a referee of the tournament, explained the event's focus: "By centering on kitesurfing, we've built a platform for young people across the Straits to exchange ideas and deepen friendships. The competition brings together elite athletes from both sides to compete on the same stage while enriching cross-Straits sports exchanges."
