Pingtan, the Chinese mainland's closest point to Taiwan Island and and a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-Straits integration, hosted the 2025 Joint Meeting of the Northeast Fujian Synergy Development Zone and Fuzhou Metropolitan Area on December 24. Leaders from four cities and one zone in the region gathered to advance coordinated development.

Guo Ningning, Deputy Secretary of Fujian Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee and meeting convener, presided over and spoke. Key officials including Fu Chaoyang, Yuan Chaohong, Zhang Yongning and Lai Jun—Party secretaries of Putian, Nanping, Ningde and Pingtan respectively—addressed the event. Fuzhou Mayor Wu Xiande briefed on 2025 work progress.

The meeting reviewed three core documents and saw the four cities and one zone sign 14 cooperation agreements, mainly on cultural and tourism collaboration.

"We must promote regional coordinated development with greater vision, deeper commitment, and concrete actions," Guo stressed, noting the goal to build efficient transportation, innovative industries, and sustainable communities.

Five priorities were outlined: enhancing infrastructure connectivity across energy, information, and transportation networks; strengthening industrial collaboration in sectors like low-altitude economy, green energy, and tourism; deepening cross-Straits integration to build a second home for Taiwan compatriots; advancing green transition via river basin protection; and boosting people's well-being through education, medical and social governance cooperation.

Municipal mayors, Pingtan's administrative head and provincial department representatives also attended.
