Pingtan Island, located off the coast of Fujian Province in eastern China, is seeing its winter daffodil season reach full bloom, as fields across parts of the island fill with fragrance and visitors.

In rural villages such as Canghai, rows of white daffodils with yellow centers are in full bloom. Their fragrance draws residents and tourists into the countryside. Some stroll through the fields, others pick flowers or pause for photos, enjoying a rare stretch of sun and scent in winter.

"This is the simple joy we get this season in Pingtan," said local resident Yu Qin. "You can smell the flowers and enjoy the winter sun at the same time."

According to Li Baosong, head of the Pingtan Liyuan Agricultural Development Co. "We planted about 3.3 hectares this year, and almost all of them are now in bloom," he said.

The flowering season has also attracted passing tourists. Sun, a visitor from Nanjing, said he and his family stopped by after being drawn in by the scent and joined in picking flowers.

Behind the scenes, growers are preparing daffodil bulbs for sale ahead of the Lunar New Year. "There are already orders for the bulbs," Li said, adding that processing work is underway.

Pingtan is one of China's native source areas for daffodils, with more than 300 years of wild growth and cultivation history.
