Local entrepreneur Nian Qin, a Pingtan native, revamped a run-down old house adjacent to his coastal homestay into the café following six months of renovations. The venue features 180-degree unobstructed sea views—crystal-clear blue waters on sunny days and dramatic waves on rainy ones—paired with indoor décor including sculptures, snow-themed embellishments, and a fog machine that conjures a whimsical atmosphere. Outdoor seating nooks cling to the cliffside, inviting visitors brush their hands against wave-worn rocks while enjoying a drink.

Nian's tourism venture kicked off in 2017 when he launched his first homestay in downtown Pingtan, a time when demand outstripped supply. As the market grew more competitive, travelers began craving not just accommodation but unique experiences. "Adding more rooms alone made no sense as homestays became oversaturated," Nian explained. His solution: a café that allows guests to linger, gaze at the sea, and immerse themselves in the scenery. "Our core advantage is this irreplaceable location," he emphasized.

The café prioritizes tailored service and "emotional value"—a key trend in modern travel. Nian's team, comprising full-time managers and volunteers, greets guests proactively. "Ninety percent of our homestay guests leave positive reviews spontaneously," he said. "Beyond profits, the greatest reward is witnessing guests' satisfaction." Visitors find solace in the laid-back ambiance: "Sitting here with a hot coffee and watching the sea in winter is incredibly soothing," shared a customer surnamed Nian.

Volunteer Liu Xin, a senior college student from Sichuan, was drawn to the café's relaxed pace. "My work involves greeting guests, preparing breakfast, and shooting promotional clips—simple tasks yet brimming with novelty," she said. "Having coffee here helps me unwind and escape academic stress." Manager Chen Juan, a five-year veteran of the coffee industry, views the quiet winter season as a window for reflection. "Watching the rough sea calms my mind," she said. "I love this job and will keep chasing my dream of opening my own café."

To stand out in the cutthroat market, Nian promotes his business on social media platforms like Douyin and Xiaohongshu. "Great service needs exposure," he said. He also abides by a principle: "Not all money is worth making." For Nian, the venture has yielded more than profits—it has forged bonds with people across the country. "Bumping into friends I met at the homestay in different cities is such a delightful feeling," he added.
