Longhai Village, located in Pingtan, has emerged as a model example of rural revitalization in Fujian after being named a provincial-level model village in the second batch of 2025. This island village has transformed its unique coastal resources into a thriving destination that blends agriculture, culture and leisure.

Once a village with a single industry and unkempt environment, Longhai Village seized opportunities from the rural revitalization strategy. Capitalizing on its island setting, the village focused on integrating agriculture with tourism. It launched comprehensive environmental upgrades and repurposed idle land and houses. Key developments include a research and study base, fruit-picking greenhouses, outdoor activity venues and a museum, turning simple sightseeing into immersive experiences that combine farming culture, outdoor recreation and educational tours.

On weekends and holidays, the village bustles with student groups and tourists. In the greenhouses, clusters of bright cherry tomatoes hang heavily on vines as students wander with baskets, picking fresh fruits while learning about cultivation processes. "It's more fun than visiting big cities—we can team up with classmates for challenges and enjoy the beautiful village scenery," shared student Li Yutong. "I just picked cherry tomatoes and learned how they grow; it's a fruitful trip."

Local villagers are also reaping the benefits. "Now I can earn a living right at my doorstep while staying close to my family. Life feels more promising," said Aunt Li, a local resident who works in the picking gardens, receiving visitors and tending to crops.
