Pingtan, a coastal gem in southeast China's Fujian Province, is abuzz with spring harvest activity for winter-planted crops. In Xingfuyang, what was once barren saline-alkali land is now thriving—producing a double bounty of potatoes and radishes. A local farmers' cooperative expanded potato cultivation on saline-alkali land to 500 mu this year after a successful trial, with the smooth potatoes in high market demand; local radishes also saw improved quality and higher yields this year, proving popular with consumers. The joy of harvest extends to Dangsheng Village’s ecological picking garden, where high-quality cherry tomato varieties from Taiwan bring high yields and sweet flavor, drawing crowds of visitors eager to pick their own. There are plans to turn the garden into a full-scale leisure agriculture destination, creating more opportunities to boost local income for the village. This spring harvest captures the strong momentum of rural revitalization in Pingtan, where farmland is turned into a source of new industries and prosperity for local people.
