More than 800 cyclists from across the Taiwan Straits gathered in Pingtan, a picturesque island county in Fujian Province, on April 18 for the Sixth Pingtan Cross-Straits Workers' Cycling Race, an event aimed at promoting friendship and exchange through sport.

Known for its coastal beauty and role in cross-Straits exchanges, Pingtan offered participants a chance to ride through some of its most scenic landscapes. The race featured two routes tailored to different skill levels. The 108-kilometer challenge route circled the island, with checkpoints set at major scenic attractions, while the 72-kilometer leisure route followed the northern peninsula, offering a more relaxed riding experience.

Guo Liang, the race's competition director, said the routes were designed to let riders fully enjoy Pingtan's coastal scenery. Many cyclists from the Taiwan region took part in the event.

"Pingtan is truly beautiful and constantly changing," said Jiang Wentian. Another participant, Li Jinlong, praised the local culture and hospitality. "The people here are warm and welcoming. It feels just like home."
