Pingtan Sea Willow Sculpture is a provincial intangible cultural heritage of Fujian. Raw materials are rare black coral from deep waters of the Taiwan Straits, known as divine wood under the sea. Growing at an extremely slow rate, sea willow enjoys hard and warm texture with scarce natural materials. Local craftsmen carve according to natural forms, combining round carving, relief and openwork techniques. With high ornamental and collection value, it carries island marine culture and is a precious treasure for Fujian-Taiwan cultural exchanges.
