Pingtan, an island in the Taiwan Straits that has been building its profile as a sports tourism destination, is hosting the Pingtan leg of the 2026 China Baseball League from May 20 to 28, with the finals scheduled for May 30 to June 1 at Pingtan Baseball Park.

The tournament has brought together some of China's top baseball teams as they compete for this year's championship title.

According to organizers, the league features three regional stages, with the top four teams in the overall standings advancing to the finals. The top two teams will play a best-of-three series to determine the champion, while the third- and fourth-ranked teams will meet in a single-game playoff for third place.

"Eight teams are competing in Pingtan, and all of them reached the final stage of last year's National Games," said Ren Zhiyun, executive vice president of the Fujian Baseball Association.

To make the event accessible to fans nationwide, matches are being livestreamed on Douyin, WeChat Channels and Tencent Sports.

In recent years, Pingtan has hosted a range of national baseball and softball events as part of broader efforts to strengthen its sports profile. Organizers say the latest tournament is expected to further integrate sports and tourism while showcasing the energy and appeal of Pingtan, China's second International Tourism Island.
