Pingtan, an island destination in east China's Fujian Province, suffered a narrow defeat on the road on May 23, falling 0-1 to Putian in the fifth round of the Fujian Football City League (FJCL).

Playing at home, Putian set the early pace and repeatedly used possession to put pressure on Pingtan's defense. Pingtan stayed disciplined, focusing on defensive organization while looking for opportunities to strike on the counter.

The first half saw an intense midfield battle, with Pingtan's defense holding firm for much of the contest. Goalkeeper Kang Kequan made several important saves to deny Putian's long-range efforts. However, shortly before halftime, the hosts broke the deadlock from the penalty spot to take a 1-0 lead.

After the break, Pingtan pushed forward in search of an equalizer and created several promising chances, but the visitors were unable to break through Putian's defense. Holding the advantage, Putian dropped deeper and relied on counterattacks, though they were also unable to extend their lead.

As time ran down, Pingtan continued to press until the final whistle but could not find the breakthrough, leaving the score at 1-0.

"The team showed strong determination throughout the match," Pingtan player Chen Guofeng said after the game. "We're grateful to our coaches for the tactical preparation and support. We're continuing to improve and adjust step by step, and we'll work hard for a better result in the next match."

Pingtan will return home for its next fixture on May 30 against Fuzhou.
